Pokémon type chart

Weaknesses, resistances and immunities for all 18 types—useful for video battles and Pokémon TCG when cards carry multiple types or typed attacks.

Direct answer — Each Pokémon type takes modified damage by attack type: ×2 if weak, ×½ if resistant, ×0 if immune. The matrix below covers the 18 core types (Normal through Fairy) using official Pokémon franchise rules.

Definition — Weakness doubles damage from the matching attack type; resistance halves it; immunity negates damage. In TCG, only types printed on the card and attack matter—not video-game typings if they differ.
Do not confuse — This chart summarizes official Pokémon type interactions (games + TCG). It does not replace full TCG rules (printed weaknesses per card, abilities, added types on VMAX/ex).

How many Pokémon types exist?

18 in modern games: Normal, Fire, Water, Grass, Electric, Ice, Fighting, Poison, Ground, Flying, Psychic, Bug, Rock, Ghost, Dragon, Dark, Steel, Fairy. TCG cards may show one or two types.

How do I read the matchup table?

Row = attacker, column = defender: ×2 super effective, ½ not very effective, ✕ immune, dash = neutral. Example: Water vs Fire = ×2.

Are TCG weaknesses identical to video games?

Often aligned, but each TCG card prints its own weakness/resistance line. Use this table as general reference, then check printed text in competitive play.

Why is Ghost immune to Normal and Fighting?

Canon rule: Normal and Fighting moves don't affect Ghost types (×0). Ghost is typically weak to Dark.

Was Fairy added recently?

Yes—generation 6 (2013) to rebalance Dragon and Fighting. Recent chase cards (e.g. Mega Evolution) often mix Fairy or Steel with other types.
